Motifs Basques /Basque motifs, 2006
Whether on the lintel of a house, on a carved piece of furniture, or on a discoidal stele, the Basque ornaments repertoire shows a great unity in a folk art that simple and yet so powerful.
In four chapters, the reader discovers a diversity of motifs: vegetal motifs inspired by a generous nature; radiating patterns, considered as solar like the ubiquitous lauburu; crosses associated with other symbols, and finally, a typical Basque alphabet, base of the writing often present on the etche, the Basque house, or the jarlekus, the slabs of local grave yards.
This book provides the keys to better understand and even reproduce some of these puzzling motifs, thanks to several comments and drawing tutorials.
